Meet beautiful Miss J, who was so incredibly timid and shy, it took quite a bit to get any smiles from her. I even had to hide behind a bench and take some shots fully out of view from her. She was scared of the cake and did not like the bath. This does happen more often than you would think. One year olds have such different personalities when faced with a new environment and someone they have never met before. That’s what makes them who they are and it’s quite okay.
We still managed to capture some gorgeous images for her parents to look back on in years to come
So what happens if your sweet one year old doesn’t want to cooperate in a cake smash session? After trying all my usual tricks to get them in the mood doesn’t work, we turn it into a family photo shoot. Shy ones are often totally fine when they are with their parents and siblings. We can do some in front of the decorated set and also some on a plain background. Either way, parents will have a full gallery to choose their favourite images from. I do aim to get 30 shots parents can use to put a 1st birthday photo book or album together. They won’t all be full of big smiles, or even little smiles (smiles are not guaranteed, but I will try my hardest to get them)
