This gorgeous chunky newborn baby boy Mister L, just under 2 weeks old, was far too excited about me being there to want to fall asleep during his newborn session. He was not going to miss out on all the fun 🙂 He was so wide awake during most of his session and such a wriggler! But that was okay because we got some gorgeous awake shots of him showing off his beautiful blue eyes and he did manage to get a short little nap in for a few sleepy poses towards the end of his lifestyle newborn photography session.
I never know what to expect going into a lifestyle newborn session. All homes are different. Some have gorgeous natural light and open spaces, some have small windows and dark tiny rooms. I bring with me to every lifestyle session, my on-camera flash to bounce against a wall for the smaller rooms, and I also bring my studio flash for those more formal family portraits, that are usually taken in the master bedroom. I do a mix of lighting depending on the mood/room/available light. I take each room one at a time and determine what lighting best suits that particular room. I may even do a mix of both in the same room, because, why not!
Most areas utlised in a home lifestyle session are the master bedroom, nursery and lounge room. These are the only areas of your home that would benefit from a declutter if you wish. You’ve just come home with a baby. I am not expecting an immaculate house :).

I loved this family newborn session and I was really excited to meet this tiny little bundle after photographing his older brother as a newborn and as a one year old during the last 2 years. Lifestyle newborn photography captures images unique just to you, using your own home as a backdrop. While my lifestyle sessions are very natural, I still do bring my beanbag if my clients wish for some solo images of baby.
Would you believe this home was actually quite dark on the day of the session? It was a dark, cloudy day and had very little available light. For reasons such as this, I always bring my lighting with me to combat difficult lighting situations. I do however, still like to include some natural light shots if I spot a great place to utilise 🙂
These newborn express sessions are designed for parents who want nothing more than a few natural images of their precious little baby. Baby comes dressed in their plain white, cream or ivory coloured onsie and with nothing more than my white wrap, I will take some gorgeous professional images for you in my natural relaxed style. Best thing of all, they are only 30 minutes long, include parent and sibling shots, macro close ups and baby is usually content and still sleeping from the trip and totally undisturbed.
Natural Lifestyle Home Newborn Photography always adds a bit of pizazz to my online portfolio. For my home visits, I like to use my clients own home as a natural unique backdrop for family photos. Unless talked about beforehand I do like to do a mix of studio shots, simple baby shots to keep with my favourite minimalist simple style. However, parent, sibling and family photos are taken using various rooms in the home such as the master bedroom, lounge room, nursery or against a window etc. I can even incorporate some of babys own blankets and toys as seen in this session below.
Speaking of which, isn’t this the most darling little baby girl. She was such a tiny little cutie pie with the most thickest mop of beautiful newborn hair!! She had enough to bring out the brush! :).
