Newborn Studio Photography: Wrapped babies

I find a lot of the time, a happy baby is a wrapped baby. I generally like to start off each session with the baby wrapped all snug and cosy in one of my wraps I have available for use at my home studio. Quite often babies will get a little bit grumpy when first taking off their clothes in preparation for their photo session, so one of the first things I do is wrap them to help them feel more secure.

I then take them to the bean bag to get as many angles and poses as I can before I ever so slowly loosen the wrap to get a bit more of a relaxed, lifestyle inspired style. From there, if baby will let me, and they are sleeping soundly, we move into a few side and tummy poses, still unwrapping as we go.

Most of my babies, I try to keep as naturally posed as possible. Babys comfort and safety is my first priority and I never force a pose if baby doesn’t want to.

This little darling actually didn’t need the comfort of a wrap for her session. She was so relaxed and calm and was quite easily one of the easiest babies I have had to photograph. Isn’t she the sweetest?! At the request of her parents, all images of her uncovered have been kept offline but she sure was a little superstar in the two short hours she spent with me.
